Importance of a Licensed Contractor
Your contractor should be licensed in the state are having the work done in.
They need to have a state license as well as license to work in the town that you live in, if required. I would take that a step further to say that you need to make sure that they are also properly insured.
What I have seen in the past is that someone will say “Hey, I know a guy that can come over and install your unit for you” but the problem is that that “guy” does not have a license and is not properly insured. Therefore you are exposing yourself to problems that might happen down the road. You want to check this contractor because that way if they get hurt in anyway on your property, whatever happens, you are covered.
Another part to consider is that most homeowner’s insurance policies require you to have a licensed contractor working at your house. That way if something were to happen you would also be protected by your homeowner’s policy. The insurance companies are not to excited about the “know a guys” doing the work on your home because when you are dealing with heating and air or electrical, you are dealing with some serious equipment and you want someone who is trained and with a company that has all of this protection, for you, in place to back them up if something were to happen.
