Dryer Sheets in Air Vents
“Is it a good idea to put dryer sheets in my vents?”
What are you trying to do with the dryer sheet covering an air vent? Are you trying to eliminate a smell coming out? Are you trying to prevent dirt coming into the vent? What is the real goal? If it is dirt in the vent, where is the vent at? Can we adjust things or do you have something sitting over it? Are you putting shoes on it or what are you doing there? If it is a smell, obviously something is causing the smell so you want to attack the source and not put a band-aid on it. So you want to attack what is causing the smell versus just covering up the smell. Let’s eliminate the smell so we can stop using dryer sheets or air fresheners.
I am pretty sure nothing in nature smells like a dryer sheet. There has got to be some chemicals that we are putting in the air to cover up the smell that may, or may not, be good for you. We have plenty of natural products that can fix these problems. A dryer sheet in the vent is something I would not recommend. There is no design from the manufacturer saying this machine should have dryer sheets in the vents. Your system wasn’t planned around that. If you are having dirt get into the vent problem that is another issue.
Maybe, it is in the wrong place or we are doing the wrong things in that space that can be fixed and moved. Some kids have thrown toys in there or maybe have swept things in there, which is very common in new construction as well. I have seen sandwich bags, cans, drinks and towels in there. Dryer sheets in the vents is not the answer.
The point is we have Mother Nature technology, stuff that has been around for billions of years, natural products that can help smells, odors, and growth. We have all this stuff we can deploy inside your home and the reason it is there is because naturally your air handler is in the crawlspace, attic, or vertical in the garage where there is no natural sunlight. The reason it is growing these things and is making those smells is because it is in a damp, dark environment where things can grow. If you go to the north side of a tree or a house you will see moss, algae, mildew, all of that green stuff you see when you pass by someones house. That is the north side because there is no direct sunlight. Where there is direct sunlight that does not exist. The same technology can be deployed inside your unit for your home.
